6 Thanksgiving Activities to Get Your Family Moving

Here are six activities to keep you and your family moving and having fun this Thanksgiving.

1. Play Flag or Touch Football

Instead of watching football on T.V. this year, get outside and play! Many families make this a tradition in their home because it’s a fun activity for all ages. Keep safety in mind by playing flag or touch football instead of tackling, especially when playing with children. This way, everyone can have a blast with no bruises. Make sure to set boundary lines, so that no one can go into an unsafe area, such as the street.

2. Play Turkey Tag

Sit down with the kids and decorate clothespins to look like turkeys. Use googly eyes, glue, markers, feathers and anything else you can think of. You’ll make three pins for each player, and each player gets a different color for their pins. Players can put their pins anywhere on their bodies. Then, let the turkeys run wild! Players will try to get all the pins they can without losing their own. Whoever is left with the most pins wins the game.

3. Play Charades or Pictionary

The fun doesn’t have to stop outside. If it’s rainy or cold, stay in and play a game of charades or Pictionary. This gets the crew on their feet while engaging with one another and having fun. These games can get intense, especially if you have a competitive family, which makes it all the more fun!

4. Take a Walk

If your family is a little more low key, a nice stroll might be more your style. Take a walk around the neighborhood and look at the leaves on the trees. Listen to the sounds of nature and enjoy the quiet of the holiday season. Walking with your loved ones will make you grateful for the Earth and get you moving.

5. Have a Dance Party

Music is a great way to bring people together, whether young or old. Turn on some tunes from back in the day and some for the younger generation too. Teach each other different dances from each era and let loose. There is no better way to burn calories than dancing your heart out!

6. Rake Leaves

Did you ever jump into a pile of leaves as a child? Don’t miss out on this classic fall favorite. Have everyone go outside and rake up a pile of leaves. Then, take turns jumping in!
