Summer Fitness Fun for the Family

Summer is a great time for families to discover new fitness activities.

Classic Games for Home

Some of the outdoor games that have entertained generations of children help build strong bones, provide aerobic activity, and promote sports skills. Hopscotch and jump rope can strengthen bones, and if you keep a steady pace, both games can give you a cardio workout. Try a backyard game of frisbee or badminton to help build the hand-eye coordination that’s used in many sports.

Day Trip Adventures

Search local and state parks that are within an easy drive to find hiking trails and opportunities for kayaking or canoeing. Your kids will love the change of scenery, and you’ll escape the usual gym routine. Be sure to bring water bottles and healthy snacks.

Fitness at LeBauer Park

Both adults and children can discover fun activities at LeBauer Park, located on North Davie Street in downtown Greensboro. Free summer fitness programs include:

  • Bubble Sports
    Each Saturday from 11 to noon during the summer, kids and families can participate in fun games that test your endurance and are bound to promote laughter.
  • Fitness Bootcamp
    On Saturdays from 9 to 10 a.m., a fitness boot camp is offered. This 45-minute class has adult participants use their own bodyweight to boost metabolism, burn fat, and tone up.
  • Move and Groove with Dance Project
    On Wednesdays from 6 to 6:45 p.m., anyone age 13 and up can join this jazz-based dance class to increase physical stamina, promote heart health, and stimulate mental creativity.
