Our program of behavioral care is problem-specific; treatment is provided directly for the area of concern, and may include evaluation, therapy, education, and support.
Many times you need more than a pill. At these times, LeBauer Healthcare's Division of Behavioral Medicine can help. We will offer a comprehensive approach to treating your symptoms of depression and/or anxiety.
Medication is often considered as an initial step in our combined approach to treating depression and stress, but medication alone is not enough.
The NEXT step is combining problem-focused counseling with medication.
- Counseling works by helping you objectively look at thoughts, feelings, and behavior in situations you find problematic.
- Counseling helps you find more effective ways to manage these issues.
- Positive changes can and do happen.
- Medication works by restoring the chemicals in the brain to their normal balance.
- An anti-depressant will improve your mood and increase your energy level but you must take it on a daily basis as prescribed by your doctor. For many patients, it can take up to 4 weeks to see any significant improvement.
- Similarly, anti-anxiety medication alleviates symptoms and restores normal functioning. Most of these medications have a rapid effect on your symptoms and can be taken on an as needed basis.
- Your doctor and pharmacist can provide you with more details about the medication upon request. As with any medication, if you experience any adverse side effects, contact your doctor.
- Research shows that the combination of counseling and medication provides the most effective results.
